Unfortunately my Acer Aspire V5, 573-G does not provide me with an Firewire port on its board, so I had to go and buy an converter card. Recently I bought a M-Audio Project Mix I/O audio interface which uses Firewire connection to send/receive audio and Midi data to the computer. I would use a FW400 - FW800 cable, and then the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter, but as it's been stated some interfaces have been a little iffy, though only the company that makes them can tell you if they'll work or not, i know for example that my Duet Firewire works with that adapter through buss power, but i got that info directly from Apogee.I have got an extremely annoying problem.

Now other than that i would check directly with Echo Audio if they're compatible with a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. Apple didn't move exclusively to TB/USB until late 2012 (same time they stopped shipping with DVD Superdrives) so it wasn't THAT long ago, you're likely to see more thunderbolt interfaces later on in the future, but i'm willing to bet you'll see a lot more USB3.0 interfaces since that is both PC and Mac compatible. faster, greater bandwidth and can take displays, FW, USB, when 3rd party companies catch onto making better hubs for it, it will be even greater). You can't really expect a computer company to stick with old peripherals if they have new architecture that really is a hell of a lot better (i.e. They also ship with USB3.0 instead of USB2.0 as well for similar reasons. Apple basically moved to thunderbolt because it is really THAT much better than firewire, you can plug a hub into a firewire port and gain several USB and Firewire ports, so as far as that goes, i can understand why they did it.
